Civil War heritageFor those of you who don’t know, this year marks the beginning of the sesquicentennial of the Civil War. Virginia, its lands and its sons and daughters were all a huge part of the war from 1861-1865, and the sesquicentennial marking those events and people needs to be recognized.
Perriello laudedI want to commend Rep. Tom Perriello for supporting the health care reform package that just passed. While the package did not contain everything I hoped it would and the process of passing it left a lot to be desired, I still believe that we are all better off because of the changes it introduces.

Time to pay the piper In 1284, there was a serious rat problem in a little German village causing life to be unpleasant. The city fathers, with the approval of the townsfolk, sought out a rat remover. One was found and hired. After he had rid the town of rats and life was good, the townsfolk questioned the high price they had agreed to pay and reneged on the deal. The rat man came back and took all of the children in payment.
