Nelson County picked up its first Dogwood District football victory last Friday in Lovingston over visiting William Campbell as the Governors fell behind 8-0 but then rallied with 18 unanswered points and held on for an 18-14 win over the Generals.

William Campbell’s Brandon Adams scored on a two-yard run, and Marcus Alexander ran in the two-point conversion in the first quarter, but James Saunders pulled Nelson (2-7, 1-4 Dogwood) to within two points with a first quarter one-yard touchdown run. The two-point conversion attempt failed.

The Governors took the lead on a second-quarter, 43-yard run by Rondrell Smith to put Nelson up 12-8 after the extra point attempt failed. Bobby Barnett added another second-quarter score on a one-yard run and with another failed extra point attempt that put the Governors up 18-8 going into halftime.
