The Nelson County Planning Commission on Sept. 23 recommended approval of a conditional use permit for a pizzeria to operate in a former post office building on Gladstone Road in Gladstone.

Paul Cangialosi, of Gladstone, requested the permit and said he wanted to open a carry-out pizza shop to supplement his family’s income.

Cangialosi owns the former post office, which also has a separate apartment on the top floor.

The commissioners approved the conditional use permit with the conditions that any signs on the building are to be unlit and that the business is to be open no later than 10:30 p.m.

Cangialosi said he planned to have the business open on Thursday and Friday evenings and on weekends.

“I think it’s a great use for an old post office building,” Commissioner Mike Harman said.

The permit request now goes to the Nelson County Board of Supervisors, which meets again at 2 p.m. Oct. 13 at the Nelson County Courthouse in Lovingston.
