A mobile home in Piney River is being called a total loss after a Tuesday afternoon fire.

The cause of the fire at 135 Quail Run Dr. was unknown.

It began about 1:30 p.m., said Ray Uttaro, Nelson County’s emergency services coordinator.

Uttaro said the residents, Willie D. Campbell and his wife, Kathleen Campbell, and their son were outside cutting grass when the fire began. No one was injured.

Crews from Piney River Volunteer Fire Department, the Lovingston Volunteer Fire Department, the Amherst Fire Department and the Pedlar Volunteer Fire Department responded.

“This fire was pretty contained to the one (residence),” Uttaro said. “A quick response from the fire department was able to save it from burning to the ground, but it is a total loss.”

The family is being assisted by the American Red Cross, and the investigation is continuing, authorities said.
