Two people were injured Thursday morning in a head-on collision when a Faber man fell asleep at the wheel and crossed the center line on Virginia 151 at the intersection of Va. 609 in Afton, authorities said.
Carlos Ramos, 46, was southbound on Va. 151 about 8:15 a.m. when he fell asleep at the wheel of his 1995 Mercury Villager and veered into the northbound lane, crashing into a 2008 Chevrolet Uplander driven by William Shifflett, 63, of Afton, according to Virginia State Police.
Authorities closed the southbound lane of Va. 151 for an hour.
Both drivers were wearing seat belts and were taken to UVa Medical Center injuries that were not considered life threatening, authorities said.
Wintergreen Rescue Squad, Rockfish Volunteer Rescue Squad and the Nelson County Rescue Squad responded.
Ramos was charged with not having a valid driver’s license and failing to stay right of the centerline, authorities said.
