The Nelson County Board of Supervisors on June 25 authorized county staff to accept the conveyance of three and a half acres of land from the Cove Valley Recreation Center for a manned trash facility.

The collection site, which will be built on Virginia 670 in Faber, will be the last manned facility to be built in the county. Supervisors purchased the land for $60,000.

Last month, supervisors voted to close the dump site in Schuyler in preparation for the opening of the new site.

Supervisors also voted to postpone their decision on a proposal by Icon Broadband Technologies to provide more engineering and consulting services to the county as it decides on how to enact a broadband Internet plan.

South District Supervisor Joe Dan Johnson suggested that they wait until the county received more information on possible stimulus money from the federal government.

The proposal includes educational workshops, securing requests for proposals concerning the broadband infrastructure and funding application assistance. The entire budget for the estimate proposal would be $28,000.

Supervisors also voted to extend a lease to the Millennium Group for the Nelson Heritage Center for five more years. The Heritage Center formerly was Nelson County Middle School.
