The local need is great
These are difficult times. People have lost jobs and retirement income has dwindled. Numbers of people coming to the Food Pantry have grown.
Something is happening soon at Nelson County High School that should be a great help to anyone who wishes to take advantage of the opportunity.
Once again Blue Ridge Medical Center (BRMC)/ Rural Health Outreach Program (RHOP) will be sponsoring a School and Community Health Fair with the assistance of many medical providers and agencies, from 4 to 7 p.m. July 9.
The fair is free. There will be booths offering free screenings for cholesterol, blood pressure, diabetes, skin cancer and so forth.
There will also be educational materials and drawings for door prizes. The value of these screenings can be as much as $500.
Area providers will volunteer their services, allowing students in the Nelson County school system to get sports physicals for only $10. That is a substantial savings for parents. Sports physicals done at the health fair are valid for any sporting event in which a child participates during the upcoming school year.
This portion of the Health Fair is from 6 to 8 p.m. and forms must be turned in to the school in advance or the child must come with a parent.
