Time to pay the piper
In 1284, there was a serious rat problem in a little German village causing life to be unpleasant. The city fathers, with the approval of the townsfolk, sought out a rat remover. One was found and hired. After he had rid the town of rats and life was good, the townsfolk questioned the high price they had agreed to pay and reneged on the deal. The rat man came back and took all of the children in payment.
The United States today is that village. We sought the good life, lived beyond our means and enjoyed it. But now that the time has come to pay the price, are we willing? And, what about our children, will they be lost if we are unwilling to pay?
We all know the story of the Pied Piper of Hamlin.
To the several candidates seeking to be the Representative to the Congress from the 5th District of Virginia, may I address the message you must convey to your electorate. I know that all of you champion being conservative and adhering to the Constitution and all of the other good Tea Party words. But your task will not be so easy. During your tenure in office you will have to address massive government spending cuts and the need to inflict great quality of life sacrifice upon both the elite in Washington and the poor in rural Virginia.
Rich and poor alike will have to adjust to a life of a debtor because we are no longer the richest nation on Earth, we are a beggar state. We have lived the good life and now it is time to pay the piper. Only those who have been living in a cave without running water could be unaware of the financial plight of the nation.
Your task as victor will be to rally the country to the hard task at hand and restore the stature of the nation or, failing, make us watch our children being led into the forest never to be heard of again.
