Thanks to voters from the sheriff
Now that the election and recount are finished, I would like to thank the people of Nelson County for my re-election as sheriff. My sincere gratitude to everyone involved in the recount process.
Four years ago, I promised an honest, professional and hard working sheriff’s office for Nelson County. We have accomplished many of our goals: Community patrols have been expanded; all patrol officers are certified in Advanced First Aid and CPR; and through a generous donation, given anonymously, we achieved our goal of equipping every patrol car with an Automatic External Defibrillator and all officers are trained in their use.
In 2010, our office responded to 6,101 calls for service, and we executed 38 drug search warrants. We don’t always like to publicize these warrants as publicity may jeopardize further investigations.
I’m proud of the community outreach programs we’ve instituted since 2008: Senior Safety Day, NRA Basic Pistol Course, Women’s self defense class, Cop Camp for Kids and child identification and DUI simulations at local festivals and events.
Much has been accomplished, but much remains to be done. I plan on being more proactive in keeping the citizens informed about our service to the community and I am looking forward to working with new Commonwealth’s Attorney Anthony Martin.
I am honored to be able to serve our county for another term.
If you have a concern, please feel free to visit my office or give me a call at 263-7050.
