Three break-ins have been reported in the Arrington community over the past four weeks, a number that is considered more than common for the area.
Authorities have apprehended three suspects in connection with the break-ins but are still looking for others.
The houses are located within a five-mile radius of each other but it is still too early to determine if the break-ins are connected, said Investigator William Mays of the Nelson County Sheriff’s Office.
Nothing was taken from one of the houses while the other two had more than $200 worth of goods stolen. The average amount of goods taken from the houses was about $1,000, Mays said.
Residents are encouraged to report anything that appears suspicious to the authorities, even if it’s something as simple as calling about a car that does not belong in the neighborhood. People can call the tip line at (877) 570-8477.
Mays suggested people keep their houses well lit, well locked, keep an eye out for their neighbors and avoid signs that they are out of town like having mail from multiple days in your mailbox. He also recommended locking up valuables and getting a security system.
The Nelson County Sheriff’s Office is offering a $2,000 reward for information that results in the apprehension and conviction of suspects associated with the break-ins.
