The Lady Govs dropped a 61-57 contest to Gretna, but Nelson standout Emily Stotmeister had a great night as the junior poured in 30 points and hauled in 26 rebounds.
“It would have really juggled the standings if we cold have upset them,” said Nelson coach Debbie Whitmore. “Actually we outscored them from the floor, but the difference was in the foul shots.”
Aja Vest added 12 points in
the loss.
Last Tuesday, Altavista exploded for a 19-0 first period lead and went on to hand the Lady Govs their eighth Dogwood District defeat against one win.
Three Nelson starters, Alexis Murphy, Kayla Dooms and Aja Vest fouled out, giving the bench players a chance for some district action.
Stotmeister continues to be one of the few bright spots for the Nelson girls as she scored 15 points and pulled down 14 rebounds.
