It has been a sweltering summer and since we are still in August, some hot days are still possible, if not likely, although this week does not look oppressive.
We all know not to leave your pets and children in a hot car. But the Weather Channel has made a list of other things you may not have thought about during the sizzling summer heat like we had earlier this month.
I am a meteorologist, so you would think I should know better, but I have committed some of these no-nos myself.
Here’s a look at the Weather Channel list: For starters, leaving sunglasses in your car could cause them to warp or the metal pieces to burn you.
On to music: If you are like me, you have several CDs in your car and these could warp in the heat.
Because of the traveling we do across southwest and central Virginia, a GPS system is a necessity. The heat could damage the GPS and other electronics because the batteries could leak acid.
Leaving sunscreen or medicines in your car could cause them to lose some of their potency, so it is always wise to take them out of your car when not in use.
How many of you have kids? I am sure at one point or another, they left crayons behind in the back seat. Crayons melt quickly and could forever stain your upholstery.
You need to stay hydrated in the summer, so you might have water bottles and canned soda in the car. When you’re not in the car, get ’em out.
Water bottles can melt in the heat, allowing the chemicals to be absorbed in the liquid inside. And canned soda can explode.
